JET is sad to learn of the passing of Prof Chabani Manganyi

JET is sad to learn of the passing of Prof Chabani Manganyi, the first CEO of the Joint Education Trust, JET’s forerunner established in 1992. In 1994, after South Africa’s first democratic election, Prof Manganyi was appointed Director General in the Department of Education, a position he held until 1999.

Prof Manganyi contributed significantly to higher education in South Africa and held many prestigious positions during his lifetime. He received local and international accolades for his work in psychology, specifically on Black identity and Black consciousness. Prof Manganyi leaves a legacy of written work that he’ll be remembered for.
