Rev Mashudu Angelinah Phaliso is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa, Central Diocese and Soweto Circuit (ELCSA). She is a qualified Theologian whose research interests are in gender and theology and feminist perspectives of the history of Christianity. Her current research looks at the history of women in ministry since ELCSA was established in 1975 and takes into account the missionary initiatives and development of ELCSA. Angie served as a Chairperson of the Synod and the Diocesan Council for five years until her ordination.
She touched many lives while Accounts Manager for ABSA's Africa Growth Network and as Treasurer of the Soweto Civic Association. Angie managed the Rand Water Foundation which she established from scratch with the purpose of using education to preserve South Africa’s precious water resources in such a way that it helps alleviate poverty, creates employment and improves the lives of people living in communities close to environmentally sensitive areas.
Angie has served on various Boards since 1995, starting with the Water Research Commission, Johannesburg Advisory Committee, South African National Biodiversity (SANBI) (formerly the National Botanical Institute (NBI)) as well as the Johannesburg Society for the Blind, Gauteng Education Development Trust and JET Education Services. She has contributed to the following books and journals: John Blacking and Contemporary African Musicology, Studia Historiae Ecclesiasticae. She has received a number of awards in recognition of her work and was nominated for the SABC 2 – Checkers Woman of the Year Award in the education category in 2008.
