Review leads to changes to OBE curriculum

At a media briefing on the progress of the review of the implementation of the National Curriculum Statement, the Minister of Eudcation indicated that a new modified curriculum will replace the current NCS in an effort to improve teaching and learning in South African schools.

Press reports on the briefing mention the 2008 survey conducted by the Department of Education through JET Education  Services which found that “only about 36 percent of children could read and count by the time they were eight or nine years old” as one of the factors which led to the review.
