We are hiring: Project Accountant

JET Education seeks to appoint a qualified accountant for projects accounting, management and reporting

The candidate must be in possession of a relevant accounting qualification and is responsible to a more senior line manager or executive for several defined accounting duties, such as: preparation of project accounts, financial planning or budgeting, reporting of budget variances, cost control and cost analysis of all costs relating to programmes, the preparation of financial reports for funders, accounts receivable and payable management, bank and general ledger reconciliations, fixed assets registers and supports auditing, compliance and procurement procedures.

 

Requirements: 

  • The  applicant must be in possession of NQF Level 7 qualification in accounting, cost accounting or related degree.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in project accounting or accounting is required.
  • The applicant must be familiar with Sage300(Accpac) as the primary accounting system in JET, being proficient at advanced level on Excel or Google suite.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the non-profit sector, VAT and tax regulations, BB-BEE compliance and the development sector - grants, donations, procurement, etc. will be required.
  • An understanding and work in the education sector will be complimentary, however not a requirement.
  • Applicants must have a South African ID or a valid work permit. 
  • All shortlisted candidates will be subjected to independent relevant reference checks.

 

Responsibilities: The incumbent will work within the finance unit and be responsible for a number of projects/programme accounts, directly liaising with senior project managers. The successful applicant will be responsible for all accounting duties within the projects and responsible for all accounting functions such as:

  • The preparation of accounts - day-to-day invoicing on deliverables completed, processing and payments of all project expenses, including payroll, margins and logistical expenditures
  • Monthly, quarterly and annually - working closely with project managers - financial planning and budgeting (including forecasting) , capturing of budgets into Sage and reporting of budget variances, cost control and cost analysis for programmes. 
  • To prepare, monitor and manage the project accounts for a number of clients and will be responsible for the time management of these outputs. 
  • To monitor cash flow on projects, timely billing/invoicing and collections of overdue accounts and timely payments of expenses to suppliers
  • To report on programmes performance when required to the CFO and to Project Managers/ project teams during set project meetings.
  • To participate in project related procurement (tenders, evaluation committees, vetting, etc.)  - a component of financial management that is a bigger part of the monthly responsibilities.
  • Responsible for the design and modification of accounting systems as required to improve efficiency and turnaround time to project managers requests
  • The incumbent will also be part of all the financial audits done by the company.
  • Any Ad Hoc responsibilities.

The incumbent requires the following skills:

  • Strong communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Time management skills and deadline driven
  • Computer skills including familiarity with Google Apps, Microsoft Office, and use of the internet and email.
  • Must have advanced experience working on ACCPac or similar software for accounting
  • Solid bookkeeping knowledge
  • Proactive and a problem solver
  • Work in a team environment and with a diverse group of people.

The successful candidate will work with the accountant, programme managers, the administrative unit, coordinators, and closely with the CFO’s office. The person will report directly to the CFO as part of the unit.

 

The total cost to company (CTC/all inclusive) package is between R308 721 and up to R450 000.
