Vision, visual perception and auditory perception form the foundation on which reading and other academic skills are built. Thus it is important for Grade R practitioners to have an understanding of how children develop these capacities.
Roelien Herholdt, Specialist Manager at JET has developed a series of booklets, as part of an educational psychology project in which Grade R teachers received training in understanding perceptual skills and developing practical resources to teach perceptual skills. 
The materials focus on fine motor skills as well as letter sounds, number concepts, and number names in an easily accessible way. The worksheets are geared towards pre-school and Grade 1 learners and are organised per visual perception skill as well as from easy to difficult.
